Amazon has 100,000 employees in India and the decision will affect 1% of the country’s workforce. Affected employees will receive severance pay, health benefits and other necessary support. The company cited an “uncertain economy” and the fact that the online retail giant has been “hiring quickly” during the pandemic as reasons behind the mass layoffs.
