In a hit-and-run case similar to the Delhi car horror, a delivery man died in Noida on Sunday after a car hit his two-wheeler and dragged him for about 500 metres.
Kaushal, who works at Swiggy, was out on New Year’s Eve to make a delivery when a car hit his two-wheeler near an overpass in Sector 14, Noida, police said.
Witnesses said the driver parked near a temple about 500 meters from the crash site and fled the scene after Kaushal’s body fell.
When Kaushal’s brother Amit called him at 1am on Sunday, a passerby answered the phone and informed him of the accident.
A complaint has been filed based on Amit’s complaint and an investigation is ongoing, officials said.
“We are scanning the CCTV installed in the area to trace the accused,” an official said.
The accident happened hours after a 20-year-old woman in Delhi was hit by a car and dragged for about 13 kilometers.
Anjali Singh, whose nude body was later found on the road with multiple injuries, shocked the nation in the new year.
Her clothes were dragged and ripped off as passengers in the vehicle traveled from Sultanpuri, where they collided with her scooter, to the village of Jonti near Kanjhapura, and one of the men finally found her hand sticking out from under the vehicle.
Five men who allegedly admitted to being intoxicated at the time of the crash have been arrested and charged with “capable homicide not constituting murder”, reckless driving and negligence causing death.
