Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday referred to Amrutha Fadnavis’s “Father of New India” remarks, mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked “‘New India’ ‘What did the ‘new father of the nation’ do for the country”? “
On December 21, Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, called Prime Minister Modi “Father of the New India”.
Kumar criticized the phrase, saying, “They have nothing to do with the struggle for independence. RSS did not contribute to the struggle for independence… We read the phrase ‘new father of the nation’. … What has the ‘new father’ of the ‘new India’ done for the country?”
Earlier on Dec. 21, Amruta Fadnavis had said, “India has two founding fathers. One for the old India and one for the new India. I believe Mahatma Gandhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the ‘father of the new India’.”
Maharashtra Congress chief Nanapatore retorted that Mahatma Gandhi was no match for anyone and mocked the BJP’s “New India”.
“The Founding Fathers are not comparable to anyone. Their (BJP) ‘New India’ is just making a few friends super rich while others remain oppressed and hungry. We don’t need this ‘New India’ India,” Patol Say.
“If they want Modi to be the ‘father of the nation’ of new India just for a few wealthy businessmen, then let them. I congratulate them,” Patol said.
Senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari also lashed out at the remarks made by the wife of the state deputy chief minister.
“BJP can have two fathers but not in this country. There is only one father of the nation…” Tiwari said.
