Ahmedabad:

Trinamool Congress spokesman Saket Gokhale was arrested by Gujarat police in Delhi late on Thursday on suspicion of misusing funds he had raised through crowdfunding, a senior official said.

Gokhale was arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Unit and brought here for further legal proceedings, the senior police officer said, adding that they would arrive on Friday afternoon.

This is the third time Gokhale has been arrested by Gujarat police this month.

He was first arrested by the cybercrime unit on December 6 for allegedly spreading false news about the expenses incurred by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the town of Morbi following the bridge collapse tragedy.

On December 1, Gokhale shared a news clipping, allegedly obtained through Right to Know, claiming that Modi spent Rs 30 crore visiting Morbi after the bridge collapsed.

Shortly after being released on bail from the court here, the TMC leader was again arrested by Morby police on December 8 for the same offense registered locally. He was released on bail the next day.
