In a shocking incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, a 24-year-old man was filmed brutally beating a 19-year-old woman who allegedly refused to marry him. The heart-wrenching attack, which has gone viral, shows the couple walking hand in hand when the man slaps her, grabs her by the hair before slamming her head on the ground . He then mercilessly kicked her in the face and all over her body. The woman appeared to be unconscious during the attack and the man tried to steady her while instructing a friend who was recording the video to delete it. The woman was seen lying unconscious on the side of the road for hours.
The harrowing video was filmed in Mauganj area of Rewa on Wednesday. The police filed a case against the two men under different legal provisions, including the Information Technology Act, and arrested the accused Pankaj Tripathi and the man who recorded the video. Pankaj Tripathi was arrested in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, after days on the run. Police are now interrogating the two men.
Pankaj was allegedly furious when the woman refused to marry him because her family disagreed.
Locals found the woman unconscious on the side of the road and notified the police, who sent her to the hospital for treatment and filed a case.
Rewa’s deputy police superintendent Anil Sonkar said the man was a resident of Dhera village in Mauganj town while the girl was from another village.
“There was an argument between the two over something, the man beat the woman, those present called the police, we rushed to the scene and took the young couple away, the woman was taken to the hospital for treatment,” Mr Sankar said, adding, No action was taken after the woman’s mother rushed to the police station.
Police acted on the viral video and a case has been filed against the man.
The victim lodged a complaint against those who filmed and distributed the video, and a case was registered under the Information Technology (IT) Act.
