Minister Rahul Gandhi: Make sure to follow Covid rules or suspend Bharat Jodo Yatra: Mansukh Mandaviya – Flying Journals

The Union health minister has written to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asking him to ensure that Covid rules are followed in his “Bharat Jodo Yatra” or he should suspend it “in the interest of the nation”.

In its pushback, Congress cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent polling campaign in Gujarat. “The BJP is afraid of the pilgrimage because Rahul Gandhi has caused a huge reaction on social media,” Congress leader Adil Ranjan Chowdhury said.

In his letter, Minister Mansukh Mandaviya mentioned that three Rajasthan BJP MPs had written to him and “expressed concern” over the rising number of Covid cases around the world in the past few days.

He also attached a letter from three MPs highlighting how Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu tested positive for coronavirus after attending yatra.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the letter was “a distraction tactic”.

“The pilgrimage shocked the BJP and its reaction was panic: Did Modi wear a mask while going door-to-door in Gujarat?” he said in Hindi.

He said the health minister “might not like Rahul Gandhi’s pilgrimage”, but “people from all over India” took part.

“yatra undercuts BJP’s propaganda trough Gordy (submissive) media,” he added.

“But now Rahul Gandhi is all over social media. People are talking about Hajj and it has a huge impact. That’s why Modi government deployed (Mansukh) Mandaviya under any pretext and tried to turn people against Hajj,” he further said .

Rahul Gandhi did not respond.
