Delhi teacher attacks Class 5 girl with scissors, throws her from balcony

The teacher allegedly attacked the girl with a pair of scissors before throwing her off the balcony.

New Delhi:

A teacher threw a fifth grade student off the ground floor of a public school in Derry today.

The child, Vandana, is being treated in hospital and is said to be in a critical condition. Teacher Gita Deshwal was arrested.

The incident happened at around 11.15 am at Balika Vidyalaya, Nagar Nigam, Delhi.

Gita allegedly attacked Vandana with a pair of scissors before angrily throwing her out of the first-floor classroom.

Another teacher, Riya, reportedly tried to intervene and stop her colleagues from beating the children.

When the girl fell from the ground floor, witnesses gathered and called the police, who took the seriously injured child to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital.

All necessary tests including CT scans have been done. The child is safe, stable and responding well.City agency says it will cover all costs of girl’s treatment

A senior official of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) told the Press Trust of India that the teacher has been suspended and the department is conducting further investigations.

“The teacher has been detained by the police. The MCD also suspended her immediately,” the senior official added.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shweta Chauhan said that under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code, an attempted murder case is being registered based on eyewitness statements.
