A team of vigilantes in Faridabad, Haryana, today captured a police officer who was taking bribes in a buffalo theft case. Yet they were baffled by his deft move to destroy evidence upon arrest.

Deputy Inspector Mahendra Ula was seen being subdued by vigilante officers as he tried to swallow the banknotes he had accepted as a bribe. Officers cornered him and tried to recover the money he tried to swallow after his arrest.

In the video, the officers are pinned to the ground, and one of the officers puts his finger in the officer’s mouth to retrieve the banknote, but struggles due to the stubborn resistance of the deputy inspector. A bystander tried to intervene but was pushed away by another officer.

The officer solicited a bribe from a man to take action against a defendant in a buffalo theft case, according to officials.

The officer demanded Rs 10,000 from the victim, Shubhnath, whose Buffalo was stolen.

The victim had already given the officer Rs 6,000, but before giving the rest of the money, Shubhnath lodged a complaint against the officer with the police department.

The security personnel planned to capture the officer, set a trap, and caught him on the spot.
