Telangana politician YS Sharmila arrested after March drama

New Delhi:

Telangana politician YS Sharmila was arrested today after she tried to go to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s residence in Hyderabad to protest an alleged attack on her by workers of the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). She will now be brought before magistrates.

This morning, the city police used a crane to tow away the car of YS Sharmila, sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, while she was still inside.

A note from her party said Ms Sharmila set off for the chief minister’s residence “to protest and condemn the bloody attack on her and party activists by TRS thugs during Padayatra in Warangal district yesterday”.

Ms Sharmila was briefly detained yesterday after her supporters clashed with ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi workers in Warangal.

This morning, she got into the driver’s seat of one of the cars damaged in yesterday’s clashes and tried to go to Pragati Bhavan, the official residence of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

Video shows her getting into the car with damaged glass. She was stopped by the police. After she refused to come out, police used a crane to tow the vehicle she was sitting in.

Some political party supporters were also taken away by the police.

Ms Sharmila was later taken to SR Nagar Police Station.
