As the fear of the brutal murder of Shraddha Walkar continues to hang over Delhi, police claim to have cracked a similar crime in the east of the city.
The crime unit of the Delhi Police has arrested a woman suspected of murdering her husband with the help of her son. The woman suspected her husband of having an affair, police said. After the murders, the mother and son duo allegedly cut the bodies into 22 pieces, stored them in a freezer and dumped them in several blocks in east Derry.
It was eerily similar to the way Aaftab Poonawala, 28, allegedly strangled his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, cut her body into 35 pieces and dumped her in the Mehrauli forest south of Delhi.
Police first discovered body parts in Pandav Nagar in June and registered a murder. However, the investigation has not progressed as fragments of the body have decomposed.
When horrific details of Shraddha Walkar’s murder began to emerge earlier this month, there was also an inquiry into whether the unidentified body parts belonged to her.
During the investigation, crime units scanned footage from CCTV cameras in the area where the body parts were found. Video footage showed the woman and her son had been in the area for several nights. As the police investigated deeper, they discovered that Anjan Das, a resident of Pandav Nagar, East Delhi, had been missing for about six months. They also found that the man’s family had not reported the incident to police.
According to police, accused Poonam and Dipak killed Das in June. He was given sleeping pills and murdered after losing consciousness, police said.
Shocking footage captured by nearby CCTV cameras shows Deepak walking late at night with a bag in his hand – part of what police say was part of a trip where he dumped body parts. His mother Poonam was seen following him. Another clip shows what they look like during the day. Police said they made several runs before gradually throwing away fragments of the body.
