A fire that broke out at Bhagirath Palace Market in Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi last night has yet to be contained. About 150 firefighters are on the scene fighting the fire.
The fire department said locals notified them of the incident at 9:20 p.m. and they were rushed to the scene in a fire truck.
Narrow lanes in Old Delhi made it difficult for fire trucks to reach the site. More than one store in the market was burned.
“Major parts of the building have been damaged and officials are using remote-controlled firefighters to fight the fire,” said Atul Garg, chief of the Delhi Fire Service.
A video showed flames touching power lines as the fire spread to neighboring buildings in the area.
Officials said there were no reports of casualties in the incident.
