Mumbai reported 20 new measles cases today and a 1-year-old girl died from the virus, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. Since January 1 this year, Mumbai has reported 220 cases of measles.
Since the beginning of the year, up to 10 people have died from measles.
“In view of the measles outbreak in Mumbai, all citizens are called upon to vaccinate children from nine months to five years old,” the civic agency said.
SevenHills Hospital in Andheri has reserved 120 beds for measles patients as a precautionary measure. This includes 100 oxygen beds, 10 ventilators and 10 intensive care unit (ICU) beds.
The hospital has been operating as a dedicated Covid-19 hospital for the past two years.
