7 Tamil Nadu medical students suspended after video shows sexual harassment

CMC Vellore has asked police to investigate the ravages

Chennai:

The Christian Medical College in Vellore has suspended seven senior medical students after an unverified video surfaced on social media suggesting rough behavior involving sexual harassment.

The college has sought a thorough police investigation, which is ongoing.

A 1.52-minute video, which NDTV could not independently verify, showed a man in underwear appearing to do push-ups on a lawn while water was sprayed onto several other people from what looked like a hose.

Some students also appeared to try to swim in the puddles. Video shows two men hugging inappropriately, while one man hits and touches another man’s genitals.

A group of young people was seen rushing from one end to the other. A text that appears in the video accuses the upperclassmen of forcing the lowerclassmen into these behaviors.

CMC Velore authorities interviewed by NDTV said the video appeared to be old. A committee investigating it was unable to identify the accused, they said.

“We have suspended seven senior students for allegedly being rough and have lodged a complaint with the police for a thorough investigation,” said a CMC official.

Vellore Superintendent S Rajesh Kannan confirmed receipt of the agency’s complaint, telling NDTV, “The investigation is ongoing. We are verifying whether the video is genuine or fake. The college has shared with us the anonymous complaint it received.”
