A nurse was tied up at a medical centre in Chhattisgarh, gagged and gang-raped by four people, one of whom was a minor, police said. Three accused, including the 17-year-old accused, have been arrested and the fourth is at large.
The nurse claims the four defendants documented the attack and threatened her with murder if she notified police.
The incident has been reported from the village of Chhipchhipi in the Mahendragarh district. Police said the accused found the victim working alone at the health centre around 3pm on Friday. They went into the center, tied her up, gagged her, and took turns raping her.
The nurse later notified her parents and reported the incident to the police.
“The woman has lodged a complaint. The three accused have been arrested,” said senior police officer Nimesh Baraiya.
The incident drew strong condemnation. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders protest against Bhupesh Bhagel’s Chhattisgarh government.
A group of health workers have raised concerns about working in remote areas and have urged the Chhattisgarh government to provide them with safety and security.
“We want protection. Without strict action against the accused, we will not be able to work,” said Pratima Singh, chief health officer at a health centre in the region.
