‘Plan to arrest me, keep me out of Gujarat’ – Flying Journals

“They wanted to stop me from running in Gujarat,” said Manish Sisodia.

New Delhi:

Manish Sisodia, questioned by the CBI in the alcohol policy case, predicted his arrest today was part of what he called a BJP “plan” to stop him from campaigning for the upcoming Gujarat elections.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister took a roadshow in an open-top SUV on his way to the CBI office and made numerous stops at Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial, and addressed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staff .

Mr Sisodia, 50,Tilak“The ceremony was accompanied by party MP Sanjay Singh and AAP leaders such as MLA Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj. He also shared a video of his mother blessing him.

The source said the CBI had prepared a list of questions and would raise them in “several stages”. Evidence uncovered so far and statements from others accused of “alcohol scams” will be referred to the Deputy Chief Minister, they said.

“They raided my home and nothing came of it. They went to my village looking for anything against him but they found nothing. Now they plan to arrest me to stop me from running in Gujarat. I’m not afraid of CBI, ED (law enforcement) Or go to jail,” he told party staff on the way.

“Even Bhagat Singh had to go to jail for this country,” he declared.

The BJP criticised the roadshow, saying it looked like “Aam Aadmi’s party won the corruption World Cup”.

“Today, Manish Sisodia and his supporters drove a convertible in the street chanting slogans as if the Aam Aadmi party won the corruption World Cup,” BJP spokesman Sanbit Patra Say.

Backing his deputy, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, claimed the case against him was “completely false”. He also tweeted a cartoon depicting Mr Sisodia’s heroic image. The picture shows him holding a shield called “Delhi Education Model” while helping a girl study while being hit by arrows called ED and CBI.

“He should go to Gujarat to campaign. To stop him, he will be arrested. But the campaign will not stop. Everyone in Gujarat is canvassing for AAP today,” Mr Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.

AAP boss claims Manish Sisodia “will be held until the Gurajal election result”. “Gujarat results will be announced on December 8. These people will keep Manish in jail until then,” Mr Kejriwal tweeted.

So far, the Election Commission has not announced a date for the Gujarat Assembly polls.

Mr Sisodia attacked the BJP in a series of tweets hours before the questioning. “The BJP is scared because it knows it is losing Gujarat…their purpose is to stop me from going to Gujarat,” he tweeted.

Large gatherings around his home were banned to stop AAP staff from congregating there, and a large police force was seen at the scene.

Mr Kejriwal, Mr Sisodia and others in his party claimed the BJP targeted them because of their campaign in Gujarat, where the AAP challenged the ruling party.

The CBI has indicted Mr Sisodia and 14 others under different sections in a Delhi court in August, laying out charges including criminal conspiracy and corruption. The CBI is investigating whether the AAP government’s alcohol policy helped the alcohol cartel.

The Arvind Kejriwal government in July lifted the alcohol policy, which had been in place from November 17 last year, after Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena suggested a CBI investigation.

The centre alleges that the AAP government broke the rules in enforcing its policy of handing alcohol sales to private players, closing government-run outlets. Mr Sisodia said the policy was aimed at fighting corruption and the powerful alcohol mafia.
