Last night, a bus carrying a wedding party of more than 40 people plunged into a gorge in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, killing 25 people. A total of 21 passengers were rescued by the National Disaster Relief Force and police after an overnight operation at the accident site near Sindi village.
“25 people were found dead in the Pauri Garwhal bus accident in the Birokhal area of Dhumakot last night. The police and SDRF rescued 21 people overnight; the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals,” state police chief Ashok Kumar told the news agency ANI.

The state police chief tweeted footage of the nighttime operation, where rescue teams can be seen bringing injured passengers to safety.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dami expressed his condolences to those killed in the tragedy and said the state government’s solidarity with their families.
Earlier, Haridwar police chief Swantantra Kumar Singh had said that the wedding party was departing from Radhang in the area, and they later received information that the bus had an accident.
