The pair scored 20 in the first game, batted by Josh Hazlewood. Matthew Wade’s powerful strike gave Australia a 5-90 lead earlier in the rain at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. India opted to bowl first after the game was reduced to eight runs per side. Aaron Finch gave the visitors a strong start, catering to Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah before Australia lost a string of wickets. Australia appeared to be in trouble, but Wade’s 20-ball 43 took Australia to a strong total. Bumrah returned to the XI and replaced Umesh Yadav.
