23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams withdrew from the ongoing U.S. Open on Friday after a third-round loss to Croatia’s Ajara Tomljanovic. Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Serena trailed 5-7, 7-6, 1-6 in the third round. Serena was emotional after the game, saying she wouldn’t reconsider retiring, but “you never know.”

Serena Williams was seen crying during an on-court interview as she praised her sister Venus for her huge success in the sport.

“I wouldn’t be Serena without Venus. So thank you, Venus. She is the only reason Serena Williams exists. It all started with my parents who should Everything I got. I’m so thankful for them. These are tears of happiness I guess,” Serena said.

When asked by a live interviewer if it was possible to extend her career, she replied: “I don’t think so, but you never know.”

“It’s been an interesting journey,” she said. “It’s been the most incredible journey and journey I’ve ever been through in my life.


“I’m so grateful to everyone in their lives who have ever said, ‘Go on, Serena.’ I’m so grateful. You have me here.”
